Ann McGinley is a Melbourne artist.   Her work is essentially one of exploration.  Nothing is completely fixed and often the image appears unresolved.  This is deliberately opposed to the stark images that proliferate our space..
Ann's paintings explore the intersection of harsh reality and yearning.  Sometimes described as city grids, sometimes as landscapes, they question the harshness of the modern world with its often ugly and brash exterior.  The interplay of colour and abstract shape reflect a sublety lacking in the urban landscape and as such the resultant images walk a fine line between beauty and distortion.
Most recently Ann is exploring the application of watercolour in the production of contemporary images.  Watercolour is used with ink and thin acrylics to produce transparent layers that obscure definition.
Together with painting, Ann's practice also includes audio visual media and installation which explores the overlap of culture, religious belief and art in contemporary society.
